How couldn't I, being a Tolkien fan with a book written by someone with the last name of Lothlorien whether that's really Elle's last name or not is immaterial; that at least had me curious Okay, okay, to the review of the story! Elle had me at the name of the Baby Dolls - and the rest of the siblings. That's evil, Elle, to throw such scrumptious names at us old movie fans!
Alice is in Australia at a poker tournament to win money for her sister Marilyn Munny who has leukemia. But is that the only reason? And why is the water around her looking more like blood than her red-colored hair, to get back to what's currently happening to Alice? Gadzooks, she's been bit by a shark, which is why her butt cheek feels like it's on fire. But fear not, Alice, your White Rabbit is there to save you from said shark - and to help you win - or at least have a better chance at winning - the poker tournament.
Though he does it in his own way. With enough twists and turns that I'm still not sure I totally understand how "Alice" managed to place where she did. I have quotes around Alice for a reason But that may be me. And thank you for clueing me in on more than I possibly wanted to know about poker. Plenty of unforced humor, plenty of twists and turns, and plenty of Alice in Wonderland stuff to leave an Alice junkie keeping track of all that Ah, maybe I'm just giddy from having finished one of the best romantic comedies I've ever read!
Okay, maybe I haven't read a heck of a lot of them, but a girl can aspire to WRITE one as well done as this, can't she? If you want at turns to laugh out loud and be brought back down to earth but with a lot more humor than serious stuff , get this book. Read it. Read it in three days, like I did. I'm unemployed during this December; what else is there to do, I asks ya?

Even if you're not that into romance like I am I "purchased" this book when it was advertised as a free selection through one of the free ebook email lists that I subscribe to. It took me awhile to get through the book, not because the book was slow but because I had a lot of other options on how to spend my time. However, when I picked the book back up recently, it really sucked me in.
Since I had never read any of Ms. Lothlorien's works before, I wasn't sure what to expect. As I was reading through, I kept expecting something unusual to happen, and I was not disappointed. Without giving away too much, the book is full of twists and turns that you never quite see coming.

I'd like to compare the book somewhat favorably to the Stephanie Plum series of novels by Janet Evanovich, I would like to think that Alice Faye and Stephanie Plum could at least be cousins. Based on this book, I would definitely be willing to purchase some of Ms. Lothlorien's other works.

Elle Lothlorien takes fairy tales and contorts them into a contemporary romance, as someone else mentioned. This one could have been really overdone, but this author weaved characters and elements of Carroll's classic work seamlessly. I was waiting for at least one "Off with her head" but it never came.

I'm not complaining. I think it would have been over the top. Most of the time I was too engrossed in the story to even care about the fact I never was a big fan of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I thought the dialogue was witty and I love how she doesn't start new chapters with descriptions. It's always bored me to read a book where I dread the next chapter because I know I've got a bunch of scene-set up and description to get through before the snappy dialogue returns.
I also loved the way she ended it. Synopsis: Alice Faye Dahl is the unknown upstart at an International Poker Tournament in Australia and manages to win one of the nine coveted spots in the final game. She runs into an unlikely, but adorably besotted hero named Rabbit. Can Alice survive the tournament, let alone who will win, and still manage to keep Rabbit's heart or will the nefarious poker fiend "Queenie-baby" ruin everything?

I can't say I hated it, I can't say I liked it either. Just bizarre Report abuse. Loved the idea for this book and the story kept me wanting more, loved seeing the characters develop.
It was fun, slightly confusing at times as was Lewis Carroll's work and worth reading to the end. I enjoyed it and would read more of this author. There's a problem loading this menu right now.
